The MHS Young Persons' Group enables young adults, from throughout Hambleton and Richmondshire, who are experiencing mental health problems, to meet with each other and engage in age-appropriate activities, outside of a mental health setting. The group meets fortnightly and the group members, supported by MHS outreach staff and volunteers, plan the programme of activities. In order to offer equal access to young people throughout this widespread area, the staff and volunteers assist with transport, both from individuals' homes to a central meeting place, and to the venue of the planned activity. Access to the group can be by referral from CMHTs, other agencies or by self-referral. In the case of self-referrals, should the young person be involved with any other agency, they will be informed that MHS may contact that other agency for the purpose of gaining any information, considered relevant to MHS. The lower age limit for attendance at the Young Persons' Group is eighteen years. At present, no upper age limit has been specified and individual cases will be assessed for the appropriateness of the referral Referrals to the Young Persons' Group, whether by referral from another agency or by self-referral, will be progressed according to MHS's existing operational referral procedure. MHS is committed to facilitating individuals' access to educational, training and employment opportunities. Should any group's members whish to be supported in accessing any of these, whether within or outside of the specified group times, staff or volunteers will, whenever possible, make themselves available to offer such support as is requested and agreed by both parties to be appropriate. |
