Support for Older People ORCHID Runs small locality daycare support schemes for people over 65, who experience mental health problems (not for dementia sufferers). Referrals for this service come from Health & Social Services and transport is provided where necessary. Currently there is a charge for each attendance which covers transport, daycare and meals, this is reviewed yearly. People who benefit from this service People over 65 who are experiencing mental health problems who live in their own home or with family. To become a part of our "little family" a referral is required through your Doctor or Social Worker.
BEFRIENDING SERVICE The aims of the scheme are to ease the loneliness and isolation that may be the result of ill health, loss of mobility or companionship. This could be either short term or long term when a regular visitor could make all the difference. Time spent with a good listener or a change of scene can greatly improve feelings of well being. This is achieved by a carefully matched befriender, visiting the individual in their own home on a regular basis, or maybe by both going on the occasional trip together thus improving social confidence and providing some relief for carers. Volunteer befrienders are carefully selected, receive full training and understand the importance of confidentiality. _____________
Experience over several years has shown that both these services are a valuable non-statutory alternative source of support for users and carers. Currently, there are over 80 people benefiting from these facilities. Please note both these services require referrals which need to be made via a Doctor, Social Worker or Community Psychiatric Nurse. For further details of any of these services, please contact Katherine Merry, on 01748 822255, or MHS on 01609 780758
